Cooke & Arkwright has been named Commercial Agent of the Year 2020 at the second Cardiff Property Awards, held virtually on Friday 26th March 2021. It is the second year in a row that the firm has been named Commercial Agent of the Year after winning the title in the 2019 inaugural awards.

The Cardiff Property Awards celebrate the best of the Cardiff property sector, from commercial to residential, lettings and new builds.

Cooke & Arkwright was also ‘highly commended’ in the Employer of the Year award, coming runner-up amongst nine other finalists.

The judges said, “Cooke & Arkwright is royalty in commercial property, with an impressive 120th anniversary year - the most active agent in 2020.”

Andrew Gardner, Managing Director at Cooke & Arkwright commented, “To have achieved this award following the most challenging year is a great endorsement of the commitment and hard work shown by our teams.

“Our 120th anniversary year has been difficult, as it has for all businesses, but we have remained very busy, working harder than ever to support our clients and respond to their needs.

“We are very pleased to also have been ‘highly commended’ in the Employer of the Year award. We believe our people are our greatest asset.

“We trust in our staff and have a strong teamworking culture and spirit that has been key to us over the last 12 months. They have all committed with loyalty and dedication, to help us through such a difficult time.

“Throughout 2020 we continued to recruit graduates and qualified surveyors in different parts of the business, and have fresh and energetic new talent emerging which will keep departments resilient and well prepared for the future.

“I would like to express enormous congratulations to all our staff on winning the Commercial Agent of the Year title for the second consecutive year. We look forward with confidence to the opportunities that 2021 and the coming years will bring.”

Cooke & Arkwright have been providing rating valuation advice to The Welsh Rugby Union Limited (“WRU”) and Millennium Stadium plc for many years. They were recently successful in achieving substantial reductions in the assessments of the Millennium Stadium, covering both the 2005 and 2010 rating list. These negotiated reductions yielded savings of c.£3.5m which, crucially, allows the WRU to re-invest in rugby throughout Wales. They advise the WRU across the group portfolio including the National Centre of Excellence in the Vale of Glamorgan. The valuation issues across the WRU portfolio are complex requiring a high level of understanding of the funding and finances of professional sport in Wales. Cooke & Arkwright’s experience and understanding of these issues and application to the rating valuation have yielded these substantial negotiated reductions. The WRU and the Millennium Stadium entrust our work to organisations with the required levels in experience and expertise in dealing with these complex issues. I am glad to say we have this expertise in Wales. I would have no hesitation in recommending ratepayers making use of this Welsh based expertise.
