Portuguese bakery, Nata & Co acquires fourth site in Cardiff

Portuguese bakery Nata & Co, famous for its Portuguese style ‘pastel de nata’ custard tarts, has opened its fourth site in Cardiff at Capitol Shopping Centre. The latest addition to the growing food scene at Capitol Shopping Centre, Nata & Co joins Pret A Manger, Falafel Corner and Atma vegetarian and vegan café, adding to the expanding ‘grab-and-go’ food offering facing onto Cardiff’s Queen Street. It is the company’s fourth site, having first opened in Cardiff Bay before expanding to Splott and most recently to its largest unit opposite Cardiff Castle.

Cooke & Arkwright acted on behalf of Capitol Shopping Centre landlord NewRiver to secure a 10-year lease for the popular Portuguese bakery chain. EJ Hales acted for Nata & Co.

Ben Davies, Associate with Cooke & Arkwright’s Retail & Leisure Agency said: “We’re pleased to have secured this letting to Nata & Co, an established, local and independent food operator. This acquisition shows growth in this sector which has faced challenging times recently with many well-known high-street food chains closing their doors.  However, there are opportunities for emerging operators and the general trend is growing confidence in the A3/food led market, not just for independent traders, but franchise based enterprises as well.”

Filipe Brito at Nata & Co said: “We’re excited to open our fourth site in Cardiff after experiencing significant growth. We’ve seen our brand become so popular since opening our very first bakery in Clifton Street, Adamsdown. We’re over the moon that people are buying into our brand and helping us to grow.”
