Brew Monster determined to roar in Cardiff Bay

The owners of Brew Monster are braving the Coronavirus storm and have committed to new premises in Cardiff Bay, which they plan to open as soon as Government restrictions are eased.

Three years after first launching in Cwmbran with just four core beers, specialist craft brewer Brew Monster is to bring its range of craft beers and ales to the public in a prime location in the Bay.

The new bar will be located on the ground floor of Ocean Buildings and will be the only independent craft beer bar in the area. For the first time, visitors to the Bay will be able to sample award winning beers including Leviathan, Tiamat and Black Widow .

The deal to secure the ten-year lease was negotiated by Cooke & Arkwright’s Retail and Leisure Agency team on behalf of the landlord. The 1,400 sq ft premises occupy the ground floor of Ocean Buildings in the pedestrianised Bute Street, which leads onto Mermaid Quay and the heart of the retail and leisure attraction in Cardiff Bay.

Glenn White, Managing Director of the award-winning brewery said, “We’re absolutely determined to weather the storm and be ready to open in such a great location in the Bay. We’d had a successful three years since launch, with a great response from the public before the crisis hit. When we get through this and restrictions start to be eased, as they must at some point, people will be keen to regain some social normality and enjoy specialist beers again.

“Craft beers have really taken off in the last few years and people’s palates are changing as they become much more inquisitive about the taste and origin of what they are drinking.”

Ben Davies of Cooke & Arkwright’s Retail & Leisure Agency team added, “The landlord has shown great flexibility in accommodating the deal so that it can proceed in the current crisis. They appreciate the growing trend and popularity in this sector of the drinks industry and want to ensure a deal with such an entrepreneurial outfit as Brew Monster is secured. The brewers will make a unique contribution to the mix of leisure operators in the proximity of Mermaid Quay”.

Brew Monster is based in Avondale Business Park in Cwmbran. A year after launch in 2017, the company opened a successful tap room in its brewery to sell directly to the public. This was followed by its first city centre bar in Cardiff’s High Street, close to Cardiff Castle at the end of 2019.  2020 has already been a busy year for the brewery with the acquisition in January of The Atig, a micropub in Llantwit Major, making this latest acquisition in Cardiff Bay their 3rd venue in South Wales.

Further expansion across South Wales is planned.
