Veolia Transport Cymru has opened a transport depot at Llandow Trading Estate in the Vale of Glamorgan to house its fleet of buses and coaches that service contract routes throughout the area around Cardiff and the Vale. Llandow is increasingly being viewed as a strategically important location in light of the recent decision by the Vale of Glamorgan council to approve the planning application for a military training academy in St Athan, which could train 25,000 students a year and create 5,000 jobs.

Owens Road Services has leased almost 90,000 sq ft at Reevesland Industrial Estate, Newport, where it will operate a regional distribution centre, warehouse facility and a vehicle service workshop. The company will operate a Just-in-time (JiT) facility from the warehouse in partnership with Ball Packaging Europe, one of the world’s largest producers of metal and plastic containers for the beverage and food industry, as part of the supply network for a major brewery.

Cooke & Arkwright’s investment agency department has sold two industrial estates totalling some 79,000 sq ft for the Ashtenne Industrial Fund for a price of £3m, reflecting a net initial yield of 10% on the existing income.

A retail ‘quarter’ is taking shape at Newport’s £100m Celtic Springs Business Park. A parade of shops close to the existing Dragon Fly pub and restaurant and Express at Holiday Inn, to the east of the park, will add to the facilities already present at the 45- acre business park adjacent to the A48 and near junction 28 of the M4. One of the three planned shops has already been snapped up by Greggs, who are eager to open for business on the park by the end of the year. The new store will lead to the creation of 12 new jobs.

A Welsh chartered surveyor has been given an inaugural lifetime achievement after 30 years of dedication to the industry. The first annual Robert Knight Award was presented to Jeremy Rawlins, 53, of Cowbridge, who is held in high esteem in the property industry by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Wales.

Thunder Road, Wales’ leading motorcycle dealer has doubled its size and opened a new 12,500 sq ft showroom and workshop in Cwmbran, acquired by Cooke & Arkwright. Around 200 motorbikes from scooters to super bikes, including the full Honda range are on display, as well as a wide range of riders’ kit and accessories. Teamed with its long established showroom in Bridgend, Thunder Road is now the largest motorbike dealership in South Wales and employs 60 staff between the two locations.

In a property deal brokered by Cooke & Arkwright, Cardiff University has leased 11,200 sq ft at Museum Place, Cardiff, from Norton Evans Ltd. This follows closely on an earlier deal in which it acquired 14,500 sq ft at Deri House in Park Grove, representing two of the largest office deals in Cardiff this year.
