RICS Wales appoints new Chairman

Michael Lawley, managing director of Cooke & Arkwright, has been appointed Chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Wales Council.  The two and a half year appointment will also see him sit as the representative for Wales on the RICS UK Board.

“It’s a great honour to be asked to take on this position,” said Mr Lawley.  “I am delighted to be able to make a contribution to the significant role that RICS now plays in the professional and business community in Wales.”

RICS Wales is a National Association within the RICS with over 3,000 members.  It works with central and local government and the media to ensure that an expert voice is heard on a diverse range of issues affecting property, construction, land and the environment.  RICS is a global property professional’s organisation with members in 146 countries worldwide, represented by 50 National Associations.

As well as his managing director role, Mr Lawley is the director within Cooke & Arkwright responsible for consultancy and development advice including strategic residential land matters, and has overall responsibility for large scale asset valuations. He regularly receives arbitration and independent expert appointments from the president of the RICS.

He is a governor of the University of Glamorgan and a director of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He is a member of the CBI Wales Council and also a private sector appointee to the Land, Property and Urban Regeneration Group of the South-East Wales Economic Forum.
