New life for Old Granary

02/01/09

Old Granary Business Units, a sympathetic and attractive conversion of former farm buildings in the village of Nottage, near Porthcawl, has been let to Brain Injury Wales, an independent, professional brain injury case management and nurse consultancy company, and Twenty20 Homes, a regional developer of select homes in Wales.

Rhydian Morgan of Cooke & Arkwright, who acted on behalf of the landlord, Richard Knight, said that the development was a good example of a farm diversification project.  “This is a period conversion in a stone built farm complex which now provides modern, flexible office space in a light and airy environment,” he said.  “We are delighted to have attracted two high quality tenants who were looking for an alternative to the traditional town centre or business park locations. We had similar success in letting Chapel Barns in Merthyr Mawr, which demonstrates that there is a demand from business for these uniquely placed and aesthetically pleasing conversions.”

Brain Injury Wales was established 18 months ago and offers a holistic, client-focused approach to community based rehabilitation, providing a specialised case management service for people who have suffered a brain injury.  The service also provides bespoke training packages for professionals and carers who work with or rehabilitate survivors of brain injury.

Vicky Shankland, nurse consultant and director of Brain Injury Wales, said, “The focus of our service is based on the principles of neurological rehabilitation, empowering and encouraging patients to take responsibility for their future health. All aspects of rehabilitation are included in detailed plans of care so that we can help our clients to build on their abilities and relearn techniques.  Many of our clients face a lifetime of disability so specialist expertise is offered to aid with the rehabilitation and recovery process.  As health professionals we work in partnership with our clients to ultimately improve the quality of their lives.

“We are dealing with highly complex issues and our new premises provide a calm and pleasant environment in which to work, which was an important consideration for us.”

Brain Injury Wales joins neighbouring tenant Twenty20 Homes, which opened new offices at the Old Granary Business Units earlier this year.  Twenty20 Homes took the new unit to facilitate current and future developments in the South Wales area. These include a complex of luxury apartments and penthouses with spectacular sea views at Locks Common, due to be completed by the end of the year.

Francesca Tanguy of Cooke & Arkwright, who is marketing the development, said that two of the three penthouse apartments and two other apartments had already been sold. “A sign of the confidence that the developers have in the position and quality of Locks Court is that this is one of the few sites to have been taken through to completion in these challenging times,” she said.

Paul Markey of Twenty20 Homes said, “The office in Nottage is ideally situated for us as we take a hands-on approach to our developments at all stages.” Current developments by Twenty20 across South Wales include locations in Cardiff, Burry Port and Tenby.
