Healthy takeaway first in Wales

18/02/09

In a reflection of the growing popularity of take away food during the credit crunch, Wales’ first wok2go franchise outperformed its fellow franchisees around the UK during its first week of trading,

The new outlet opened in Caerphilly Road, Cardiff, at the beginning of February after franchisee Sharon McCarthy had completed extensive refurbishment works.  Ten people have been recruited locally to help at the takeaway, which is open until 11.00 pm seven days a week and specialises in fresh, healthy oriental food.

William Lloyd-Davies of Cooke & Arkwright, who acted on behalf of the landlord, Park Estates Ltd, said that the tenants had invested heavily in the refurbishment and fit-out.  “The premises look extremely smart and the investment demonstrates the confidence that the owners have in their new venture,” he said.  “We wish them every success.”

Ms McCarthy explained her belief in the business.  “I believe that wok2go is uniquely placed to fill a gap in the market because it places a strong emphasis on producing healthy, high quality Chinese and Thai oriental food at a fair price.  We use only the freshest ingredients to ensure that there is less fat, less salt and no monosodium glutamate. Customers enjoy watching the meal being prepared in searing hot woks in the open plan kitchen.”

It is estimated that we spend £1billion every year on oriental takeaways in Britain and demand is growing.  Diet, health and nutrition have become increasingly important and the trend for healthy eating means more and more people are looking for local, fresh and unique foods.
