Greggs has opened its newest shop in St. David’s Shopping Centre in Cardiff. The St. David’s shop is the latest in a string of new openings for the Treforest-based bakers, with eight others opening across Wales and the South West in the last year alone and at least four more planned for Spring 2009. The St David’s shop is the largest ever single shop investment by Greggs of Treforest.
The new shop, located between Game and Thomas Cook has created 18 new jobs and is open from 8.30am to 6pm each day.
Russell Gower, sales manager at Greggs of Treforest, said: “This is the first time we have opened a Greggs shop in a shopping centre in Wales. We’ve wanted to be in St. David’s for some time and worked with Cooke & Arkwright to acquire the shop. It’s one of our most exciting new ventures to date. We now have a prominent position in what will be Wales’s top shopping destination when St. David’s is unveiled in 2009.”
Huw Thomas of Cooke & Arkwright, who acquired the premises on behalf of Greggs said, “We are continuing to look at new opportunities throughout South Wales for Greggs, not only on the high streets, but also on business parks, retail parks, industrial estates and prominent roadside locations. In recent weeks Greggs has acquired new premises in Talbot Green and relocated to larger shops in Aberdare and Abergavenny, all of which have proved very successful.”
