Bergstrom Europe Ltd has taken occupation of a 12,000 sq ft building at Penallta Industrial Estate in Cardiff, in a move to accommodate expansion from its main design and manufacturing facility at its European headquarters at Dyffryn Business Park. The company has relocated its metal fabrication department to Penallta where it has installed almost £2m of fabrication equipment and invested a further £450,000 on new equipment and works including upgrading the power supply and refurbishing the offices and shop floor areas.
An additional 30 members of staff have been taken on to support the expansion this year, bringing the total number of staff currently employed in Wales to almost 200.
“The space created at the Dyffryn site will allow us to continue to grow as we serve new customers and markets,” said Sean Jones, Operations Manager at Bergstrom. “We expect further growth throughout the remainder of this year and into 2008.”
Jeremy Symons of Cooke & Arkwright, who acted on behalf of the landlord, Bolwell and Hayward Properties Ltd in the deal said, “The new site needed to be close to Bergstrom’s existing facility so as to minimise transport requirements, minimise any additional travelling distance for its employees, and to enable them to support it from the main site. This building fulfilled all their requirements.”
Bergstrom Europe Ltd designs, develops and manufactures heating and air conditioning systems mainly for the off-highway markets (construction and agriculture) and specialist vehicle markets. Its customer base includes JCB, Caterpillar, CNH (Case New Holland), Lotus and LDV. Its key markets are the UK and continental Europe and around half of its manufactured products are exported, some of it as far as China, Brazil and Japan.
