A team from Cooke & Arkwright became the first to test the facilities at Boulders indoor climbing centre in St Catherine’s Park, Cardiff, in July. Now in the final stages of construction, the new 1,382 sq m premises opens its doors on the 30th August to provide the largest, combined bouldering and lead wall for rock climbing in the UK.

Cooke & Arkwright has acquired new offices at Robert Hitchins’ speculative development, Central Park on Western Avenue in Bridgend and has sold the first two newly completed units of almost 5,000 sq ft to Daydream Education, which is relocating from Cardiff. Another two units of 5,000 sq ft have just been signed to Ebtek and two further units are under offer.

Richard Hayward Properties has sold an 11 acre site at the Heads of the Valleys industrial estate in Rhymney to Neuson Ltd, part of the Wacker Neuson group, for £4m. The acquisition by Neuson is part of a £6.5m investment and expansion programme which will see production of construction equipment and compact construction machines double to 4,000 per year. The manufacturer is moving from its previous premises at Tredegar to the newly refurbished 110,000 sq ft premises on the site, which was vacated by Budelpack after a major fire in the warehouse in 2003.

Bergstrom Europe Ltd has taken occupation of a 12,000 sq ft building at Penallta Industrial Estate in Cardiff, in a move to accommodate expansion from its main design and manufacturing facility at its European headquarters at Dyffryn Business Park. The company has relocated its metal fabrication department to Penallta where it has installed almost £2m of fabrication equipment and invested a further £450,000 on new equipment and works including upgrading the power supply and refurbishing the offices and shop floor areas.

Sanken Power Systems (UK) Limited has sold its 60,000 sq ft Design and Manufacturing Centre at Abercynon near Mountain Ash to Hawtin Plc for a figure in excess of £2.5m. Acting on behalf of Sanken in the sale, Jeremy Symons of Cooke & Arkwright, who acted with joint agents on behalf of Sanken in the deal, said that the Japanese semi-conductor and power electronics specialist would be moving to new, purpose built premises at Pencoed, Bridgend, some time in early 2007.

123 Jump Limited has opened what is claimed to be the largest indoor children’s sports and adventure play centre in the UK, following a deal in which agent Cooke & Arkwright secured 25,000 sq ft at the ‘High Bay Warehouse’ in Llanishen, from landlord Ashtenne. The High Bay property is adjacent to the recently constructed Ty Glas Retail Park incorporating the flagship Marks & Spencer food store.

Acting on behalf of Décor Frame, Cooke & Arkwright has let 27,700 sq ft at Baglan Industrial Estate, Port Talbot, to Formex Archive Services (UK) Ltd. Bridgend Rugby Club Chief Executive, Leighton Samuel, who owns Décor Frame, has consolidated the manufacturing company to a 129,000 sq ft unit at Waterton Industrial Estate in Bridgend, which he acquired for more than £3m.
