Gym will fix it

Acting on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government, Cooke & Arkwright has let 5,500 sq ft at Western Business Centre, Cardiff, to Capital Academy of Gymnastics and Dance.  The Academy is one of the premier full-time gymnastics facilities in the country, fitted with the latest gymnastics equipment and offering a variety of activities to suit all ages and abilities from crawling to adulthood.

Green plans on Sterilin’s new site

In one of the largest lettings in recent months, 140,000 sq ft has been leased at Parkway Buildings, Penyfan Industrial Estate near Newport to Sterilin Ltd, which is moving its manufacturing facilities and doubling in size from its present location in Aberbargoed.  The landlord, G B Engineering (Wales) Ltd was represented by Cooke & Arkwright and Brinsons acted for Sterilin Ltd.

Prize winning inspection

Innovative marketing strategies will be the key to success in the commercial property market in 2010 says developer Robert Hitchins.  Last week, together with joint marketing agents Cooke & Arkwright and Alder King, Robert Hitchins held a prize draw at the Central Park development in Western Avenue, Bridgend.  Entrants comprised of agents who had shown clients around the park in December for the first time.  Mike Bruce from DLP Surveyors won the top prize of a 32” LCD television after accompanying his client on an internal inspection of the new industrial units at Central Park, Bridgend in December.

Purchase is ‘vote of confidence’

The purchase of a 90,175 sq ft industrial unit in Church Street, Newport is being viewed as a vote of confidence in the outlook for the commercial property market in South Wales and in the future development prospects for Newport.  Collingbourne Properties, a major landholder and investor in the area has acquired the premises from Inductotherm Group Europe Ltd in a deal brokered with Cooke & Arkwright.  The property is situated in a prominent location on Usk Way with high visibility and excellent access from the M4.

A prime 1.5 acre site in Sloper Road, close to Cardiff City Stadium in Leckwith has been sold to a private developer.  The premises were previously occupied by Hewden Hire, which has sold the site in a move to consolidate its business in Cardiff Bay.

Strategic move

Veolia Transport Cymru has opened a transport depot at Llandow Trading Estate in the Vale of Glamorgan to house its fleet of buses and coaches that service contract routes throughout the area around Cardiff and the Vale.  Llandow is increasingly being viewed as a strategically important location in light of the recent decision by the Vale of Glamorgan council to approve the planning application for a military training academy in St Athan, which could train 25,000 students a year and create 5,000 jobs.

Owens expands just in time

Owens Road Services has leased almost 90,000 sq ft at Reevesland Industrial Estate, Newport, where it will operate a regional distribution centre, warehouse facility and a vehicle service workshop.  The company will operate a Just-in-time (JiT) facility from the warehouse in partnership with Ball Packaging Europe, one of the world’s largest producers of metal and plastic containers for the beverage and food industry, as part of the supply network for a major brewery.

Thundering ahead

Thunder Road, Wales’ leading motorcycle dealer has doubled its size and opened a new 12,500 sq ft showroom and workshop in Cwmbran, acquired by Cooke & Arkwright.  Around 200 motorbikes from scooters to super bikes, including the full Honda range are on display, as well as a wide range of riders’ kit and accessories.  Teamed with its long established showroom in Bridgend, Thunder Road is now the largest motorbike dealership in South Wales and employs 60 staff between the two locations.
