Rod joined Cooke & Arkwright in 1985 and became a Director of the firm in 1997 with responsibility for leading the Rural Department.  He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers and holds an MA in Town and Country Planning.

The Rural Department in the firm includes eight surveyors providing a broad range of management, valuation, professional, planning and agency services to public sector, institutional and private clients.  Rod leads teams providing services to clients including:  Dwr Cymru Welsh Water in connection with its capital works programme in South East Wales; The Crown Estate in connection with development, management and investment in its marine estate along the entire coast of Wales; The Coal Authority in connection with the management of its property portfolio in Wales and disposal of surplus land (circa 25,000 acres over recent years); management of The Church in Wales’ agricultural and glebeland investments; and valuation and professional services for The Countryside Council for Wales.

On the private client side, Rod acts as agent for a number of major landowners and trusts carrying out work involving the management of mixed agricultural, residential and commercial property portfolios and provision of advice on Estate strategy, development, investment, valuation, landlord and tenant matters and financial budgeting.

Rod leads the firm’s property auction service.  Recent auctions have included the sale of over £2.5 million of property on behalf of the Welsh Development Agency (WDA) and sale of property for clients including Associated British Ports (ABP) and the University of Cardiff.
