John was educated at Charterhouse and Cambridge University. He joined Cooke & Arkwright in 1961 as a Land Agent and was responsible for the management of agricultural estates from the firm’s offices in South Wales and Herefordshire. He was appointed a Partner in 1972 moving from Hereford to Cardiff in 1974 to assist with the expansion of the commercial side of the practice. For some years he gave specialist advice to oil companies and the Department of Trade and Industry on the routing of cross-country pipelines in England and Scotland. For five years he was responsible for the development of the residential sales division of the firm as well as advising clients on potential development land.
He became a Consultant of the firm in 1989 since when he undertakes general professional work and in particular is responsible for the management of the Crown Estate’s maritime interest in South and West Wales.
